Andrew Cooper ran track & cross country at Washington State University (WSU) and UC Berkeley. Cooper began advocating for college athlete protections after WSU QB Tyler Hilinski died by suicide in 2018. Cooper was elected president of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), which made him realize college athletes need a union.
Cooper has a Master’s from Berkeley studying the intersection of college sports and labor law, organized 450 Pac-12 football players in the #WeAreUnited movement, interned for Colin Kaepernick’s attorney, and testified in the House Judiciary Committee. His advocacy has been featured in the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Guardian, the Boston Globe, the Seattle Times, USA Today, Mother Jones, ESPN, and Vanity Fair.
